Baby, Baby: 21 Week Bumpdate

The Kidlets

via

How far along?
21 weeks today!

Genders?
One girl, one boy...

How big are they?
Each baby should weigh about 3/4 of a pound, and measure about 10.5 inches long from head to heel... about the length of a carrot, a banana (slightly bigger than last week's banana, haha!), a pomegranate (again?)... or a baby bok choy... whatever that is... ;-)

Changing Momma
I feel like this one pretty well captures how tired I've been... and I was actually feeling decent when it was taken! ;-)

Have you started to show yet?
Oh yeah. And I'm pretty sure most of this week's growth happened between yesterday and today.  Yesterday I was thinking how I hadn't really grown much... today, I noticed a difference :-)

Weight gain?
I guess I'll find out Tuesday :-)

Maternity Clothes?
Exclusively :-)

Stretch Marks?
Possibly?  I can't quite tell if they're stretch marks or remnants of skin irritation from my insulin pump sites and CGM sensors...

Belly Button In or Out?
Still in and shallow for now, but I had a pretty wild dream about it popping out last night, haha!!!

Momma's Feeling

I had to lay down at my in-laws' last night after my back started throwing a fit.  Charley and their pup Dixie were very attentive!  Charley was laying on my ribs/hip, with one paw on my bump, while Dixie snuggled as close to it as she could :-)

Cravings:
Chocolate.  Really hadn't featured much in my pregnancy cravings so far, but it's about all I've thought about this week, food-wise :-)

Anything making you queasy or sick?
Not really!

Happy or Moody Most of the Time?
Does a little anxious count as moody?  Not necessarily about the babies/pregnancy, just generally a little unsettled and restless.

Movement:
Some, but not as much as I'd like.  Still earlyish though... they're probably moving lots that I can't feel.

Sleep:
Really not bad!

What I Miss:
I had a couple of pretty nice lukewarm baths this week, so I may be getting accustomed to them.  A nice hot one still sounds wonderful though :-)

Other Symptoms:
In all honesty, this has been the hardest week, physically, of my pregnancy so far.  I'm hurting a lot, just from stretching and carrying so much extra weight so quickly.  By the end of each day - which is getting earlier and earlier - my back hurts, my belly feels HUGE and stretchy, my legs and feet are tired and I'm very ready for bed by about 9pm.  I've ordered a "prenatal cradle," and it's past due to arrive... I'm hoping it helps buy me a few more weeks of feeling good.  But, if a twin mom measures and feels about 6-8 weeks further along than she is, I should be feeling like a singleton mom feels at the start of her third trimester.  I.E... uncomfortable.

Highlights and Coming Soon

Best Moment of the Week
We got a new rocker/recliner for the nursery (we wanted two so we can each rock a baby at the same time)... and got an amazing deal on it :-)  I put a whole jumbo case of newborn diapers into the top drawer of the dresser... didn't even take up a third of the space.  They're so tiny and precious, and I can't believe we're going to have two people tiny enough to wear them!  (And that those 128 diapers will probably not quite last us a week!)  Every little thing we finish in there is so exciting... :-)

Looking Forward To:
Ultrasound on TUESDAY!!!  I miss seeing our babies!  Can't wait to check in and make sure everything is okay... and just watch them play a little :-)

Baby, Baby: 20 Week Bumpdate

The Kidlets

How far along?
20 weeks!

Genders?
One girl, one boy.

How big are they?
This week, we start measuring from head to toe instead of from crown to rump, so it SOUNDS like they have had massive growth spurts, even though they haven't grown THAT much :-)  They each should weigh about 10.5 ounces, and measure about 10 inches from head to toe.  That's about the length of a banana or an endive, or the diameter of a mango (I guess a slightly bigger mango than last week's?).  Yowza.

Changing Momma

Have you started to show yet?
Just a smidge ;-)

Weight gain?
I don't know... this whole not-weighing-at-home thing is kind of nice.

Maternity Clothes?
Yep... and I've outgrown my pajama sets... now nightgowns/nightshirts are all that still fit from pre-pregnancy.

Stretch Marks?
No new ones on my belly...

Belly Button In or Out?
It's so SHALLOW!

Momma's Feeling

Cravings:
I don't care, as long as it's food.

Anything making you queasy or sick?
Hunger... I'm super-hungry, and if I don't eat a little something every hour or so, I get really nauseated.

Happy or Moody Most of the Time?
Pretty perky!

Movement:
Yeah, they're moving :-)  It's hard not to spend all my time pressing on my belly, visiting with my babies.  It makes them seem so much more real, and I like to imagine we're getting to know their personalities.  :-)  Baby Boy woke me up this morning, moving around <3

Sleep:
Not too shabby!

What I Miss:
The usual... HOT baths and caffeine.

Other Symptoms:
My feet are getting a little poofy by the end of a day, and I still have pretty frequent back aches and belly stretching feelings.

Highlights and Coming Soon

Best Moment of the Week:
We got the nursery CLEANED OUT!!!  It's so cool to walk by and see only furniture that will be used with our babies... a dresser used by their Daddy and Grandpop when they were little, and a glider their Gram and Poppy rocked me in when I was a baby. :-) And! My cousin offered to throw us an online baby shower (since most of that side of my family lives out of town), and my mom-in-law and dad-in-law started planning a local shower for us, too :-)  So excited to celebrate these precious babies and that so many people love them already... we are all so lucky and loved <3

Looking Forward To:
February 3 for our next ultrasound...  and we're starting newborn parenting classes that night, and childbirth classes soon after :-)

Baby, Baby: 19 Week Bumpdate

The Kidlets
via
How far along?
19 weeks!  One of our doctors told us last week that they won't let me go past 38 weeks, so I'm now officially at least HALFWAY THERE!
Genders?
One girl, one boy <3  The ultrasound tech was right at my 13w2d appointment, but since we knew he wasn't 100% sure, we avoided using pronouns as best we could.  It's so much fun to refer to the little kicks and twinges as coming from HER and from HIM!
How big are they?
Each baby should be about six inches from crown to rump... about the same length as an heirloom tomato, a mango, or a zucchini.  Three things that sound just... so icky.  They should each weigh about eight to eight and a half ounces, too, so I should be up to about a pound of baby now.  :-)  We're not going to talk about the other 12 or so pounds ;-)

Changing Momma

Have you started to show yet?
Yep.  Sometimes I have to double-take when I walk past a mirror.  And sometimes I just stand there and stare.  Halfway through what may be my only pregnancy ever... I'm soaking it in :-)

Weight gain?
I haven't weighed again since last post.

Maternity Clothes?
Yeah... the very last shirts I was still able to wear are starting to look a little like hi-lo tunics, and I'm giving them another couple weeks, maybe ;-)
Stretch Marks?
Still no new ones, but some of the old ones on my legs (I went from 64lb to 94lb in the three months after my diabetes diagnosis, I have plenty of oldies!) are starting to itch like mad.  Is that a thing?
Belly Button In or Out?
Shallow, and an old incision there from a laparoscopy is starting to feel weird, like it's stretching or something.  I've been weirdly curious to see what that scar looks like on an outie :-D

Momma's Feeling

Cravings:
Still pretty much anything that won't eat me first.  Strawberries were one this week... cheeseburgers... the usual. :-)
Anything making you queasy or sick?
I have actually felt pretty spectacular in that area this week!
Happy or Moody Most of the Time?
I've had a few days where I've had to work hard to squelch the progesterone monster... my fuse is a little shorter than normal, but I'm still generally pretty chipper.  Does that make sense?

Movement:
YES!  I can finally feel them moving without pressing my hands over them!  My favorite was a couple of nights ago when Charley was sleeping pressed right up against Baby Girl, and she gave him a test poke, then started throwing herself against him.  He didn't notice, but I sure did, and I had googly eyes all day :-)
Sleep:
Still pretty good!  I think part of it is that I take a fairly warm shower before bed, and it relaxes all my aching everything, so I feel better laying down than I do most of the rest of the time.  And of course, my new best friend, the pillow Ethan's parents gave me for Christmas <3  That thing is a lifesaver!
What I Miss:
Baths over 100 degrees... McDonald's diet Coke...
Other Symptoms:
Just feeling super-huge and stretchy.  Sometimes by the end of the day, I'm a little short of breath.  But it's not terrible, and I know it's not going to get better for a good long time ;-)  So I'll just keep grinning :-)

Highlights and Coming Soon

Best Moment of the Week:
Baby Girl kicking Charley was up there!  I also joined a local Moms of Multiples group and have been getting to know some of the members through their special Facebook group.  Seems like a neat group of ladies, and I'm so excited to have so many veteran twin (or more) moms as resources and friends :-)

Looking Forward To:
My next meal?  Ha!  I'm working on stocking our extra freezer with frozen meals, and I'm looking forward to feeling a little more prepared in that way.  The nursery is almost ready to start furnishing and decorating, and I'm also really looking forward to seeing it look less like a blank slate and more like a nursery where two tiny humans can live :-)  I might try and do an inspiration post for the nursery like I did for our family room and dining room... but I'm a little on the lazy side lately, so I may not ;-)
